"Pterotyphis eos paupereques" is a subspecies of small predatory sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Muricidae, the murex snails or rock snails.

Distribution

This subspecies is endemic to islands off the east coast of Northland in the North Island of New Zealand.

Habitat

"Pterotyphis eos paupereques" is found at depths of between 10 and 35 m.

hell description

The shell differs from "Pterotyphis eos eos" in having a broadly triangulate body whorl and long divergent hollow spines at shoulder level.

The external shell coloration is uniformly bright salmon-pink with dark reddish-brown streaks in the corrugations of the varices, although some examples are buff, with chocolate streaks in the corrugations.

The maximum shell height is 32 mm, and the maximum width is 20 mm.
