Wirreanda High School is a is a state government high school in Morphett Vale, Adelaide, South Australia. The school caters for students from Years 8 to 12.

Wirreanda is an Indigenous Australian name for "Place where wallabies live under tall trees."

Special Programs

Wirreanda Adaptive Vocational education (WAVE)

WAVE participants are young people that have a desire to obtain employment and require assistance in making the transition from school to the workforce. To be eligible for the WAVE program the young person must be 16 years or older,Actively seeking work,Willing to enrol at Wirreanda High School and aware that they will not be able to return to mainstream at Wirreanda High School.

A fee of $100 per term applies to the course.

Special Sport Course

Wirreanda High School has had a long history of successful involvement in sport, establishing the Specialist Sport Course in 1980. The school recognises the value of health, sport and physical education as an integral part of student’s development and growth. Wirreanda was chosen as the first South Australian Specialist Physical Education and Sport School in 1996.

The Specialist Sports Course is designed to enable those students who can demonstrate a special interest, commitment and ability in sport to experience an educational program to support their sporting development.

This includes the development of skills, knowledge and fitness for their sport and development in sport related areas such as exercise physiology, coaching, officiating, biomechanics, sports medicine, sports psychology etc. Students study two sports a semester. Each: a winter sport in Terms 1 & 2 and a summer sport in Terms 3 & 4. The year 8 SSC course has a time allocation of approximately 250 minutes/week.

Students of High Intellectual Potential (S.H.I.P.)

At Wirreanda High School there is a programme for Year 8 and Year 9 students who have shown potential to succeed at a high level academically. Students are identified through a verbal test and a non-verbal test of thinking, or by parent or teacher nomination. They are then withdrawn from class twice each week to participate in activities designed to develop problem solving and creative thinking skills, to develop peer group support, and to gain understanding of their individual abilities.

Course Outline - Senior SchoolThere is no formal programme for senior school students. Informal contact is maintained with students, and encouragement given for them to continue to use the SHIP room computers and facilities.

Other Information

A camp in the Flinders Ranges is held for the Middle School students. with preference given to the Year 8 group. This is educational, and follows a program which extends knowledge across the curriculum, and also develops group cohesion and bonding.

A room is allocated for the use of SHIP students and is equipped with four computers and a printer, work tables and teacher reference materials. SHIP students are able to use this room during their time at Wirreanda High School.
