Emmett Clay Choate

Emmett Clay Choate (May 21, 1891–August 14, 1974) was an American lawyer and judge.

Choate was born in 1891 in Columbus, Ohio. He received his LL.B. from the University of Indiana in 1914

Choate was a U.S. Army major from 1917 to 1918, during World War I. He was in private practice in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from 1917 to 1921, in New York City from 1922 to 1925, and in Miami, Florida from 1925 to 1954.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower nominated Choate to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida on June 22, 1954, to a new seat created by 68 Stat. 8. Confirmed by the Senate on July 20, 1954, and received commission the same day.

Choate assumed senior status on January 31, 1965 and remained on the court until his death in 1974.
