John Sims Townsend (born 1956, Wilson, North Carolina) is a clinical psychologist with broad experience in private practice, leadership consulting, and media. He is perhaps best known for his million-selling "Boundaries: when to say yes, when to say no to take control of your life", cowritten with Henry Cloud and has written over eighteen other books with a total of four million copies in print. Townsend has appeared on national TV, radio and newspapers and co-hosts the nationally syndicated radio program New Life Live.

Biography

Townsend co-founded Minirth-Meier ClinicWest and served as its Clinical Co-Director for ten years.http://www.cloudtownsend.com/about/townsend.ph] The clinic operated treatment centers in thirty-five cities in the western United States. Townsend co-leads Cloud-Townsend Resources and runs a private practice with his partner, Henry Cloud in Newport Beach, California. He serves on the board of Mustard Seed Ranch, India Gospel League and Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS).

Townsend's hobbies include music and playing in a band.

Education

Townsend has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with honours from North Carolina State University, a Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary (also with honours) and a PhD degree in clinical psychology from Biola University.

Townsend lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Barbi, and their two sons, Ricky (1991) and Benny (1993).
