. The core of the house is 17th century with later 19th and early 20th century alterations.

Between 1919 and 1926 it was owned by Lord Redesdale, father of the Mitford sisters, who made their family home at Asthall during Redesdale's brief ownership. Nancy Mitford's fictional Alconleigh is based largely on Asthall. Asthall Manor provides the setting for "on form", a biennial exhibition of sculpture in stone.
