Birol Hikmet (born March 24, 1982 in Akyazı, Turkey), is a Turkish football player currently playing for Eskişehirspor in Defensive Midfielder position. Whereas some midfielders such as Mehmet Topal and Emre Toraman are very strong in the challenge, Birol is more passive when he defends. Rather than tackle a player, he is more likely to shadow him, thus pushing him back. This mentality earns him both praise and criticism.

Despite Birol's high pass completion rate,his passing has been described as erratic in the past. A possible explanation for this, is Birol's short passing range. He is more likely to offload the ball frequently to midfield players close around him (such as Doğa Kaya), thus easily gaining a high pass completion rate.
