This
Charlottesville ,Virginia high school served residents of Charlottesville andAlbemarle County until its 1974 closing. It became too small to accommodate the student body, and was replaced byCharlottesville High School . September 10 ,1958 , federal courts ordered public schools in Charlottesville to integrate their racially segregated schools. In response, Virginia GovernorJames Lindsay Almond, Jr. ordered closed several schools in Virginia, including Lane, as a part of the state'sMassive Resistance policy. Lane was closed fromSeptember 19 ,1958 untilFebruary 4 ,1959 .
