Ernest Pike

Ernest Pike

Ernest Pike was a British tenor of the early 20th century, who also recorded under the name Herbert Payne. He was notable for being part of the cast of the first publicly-available recording of "The Mikado" [ [http://uk.geocities.com/menophanes/records.html A Cornish Cabinet of Curiosities] ] (as wax cylinders) by the company that later became HMV. He also frequently recorded in collaboration with the Australian bass-baritone Peter Dawson.

Modern fandom

Like most singers who were popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, Pike has generally faded into obscurity. However, Pike has found a very small cult following on the Internet [ [http://www.esotechnica.co.uk/ Esotechnica] ] .
