January 13 ,1858 –December 15 ,1927 ) was an American lawyer andjudge .Call was born in Fernandina, Florida, to George William and Sarah (Stark) Call. His father was a lawyer (brother of
Florida U.S. SenatorWilkinson Call ) who served in the 2d Florida Regiment of theConfederate States Army during the Civil War and was killed at theBattle of Seven Pines . Rhydon Call's mother was the daughter of Rydon G. Mays, anEdgefield, South Carolina physician and planterHe graduated from the
Washington and Lee University with a LL.B. in 1878.In July 1878 he was admitted to the bar inVirginia . Call was in private practice in Jacksonville from 1881 to 1893. He served as a judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit from June 1893 to 1913.President
Woodrow Wilson nominated Call on March 28, 1913, to theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Florida , to the seat vacated byJohn Moses Cheney . Officially nominated on April 12, 1913, Call was confirmed by theUnited States Senate on April 24, 1913, and received commission on April 24, 1913.Call served on the court until his death in 1927. He is interred at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Jacksonville.
