Adam Naruszewicz

Adam Naruszewicz (1733-1798) was a Polish-Lithuanian nobleman, poet, historian, dramatist, translator, publicist, Jesuit and titular Bishop of Smolensk (1775-1788 as suffragan bishop and 1788-1790 as full diocesan bishop) and bishop of Łuck (1790-1796).

As a senator he participated in the Great Sejm.

Naruszewicz was the first modern historian who wrote a History of the Polish Nation. He used for the first time the expression Piast dynasty for the Piast (caretakers) for the early rulers, a nick name, not a personal name, that was never actually used by any of them.
