General Heriberto Jara International Airport or Veracruz International Airport Airport codes|VER|MMVR is an international airport located at Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico. It handles national and international air traffic for the city of Veracruz.

Expansion and Renovation Works

The airport has been recently renovated and expanded in order to meet the growing demand. Some improvements have been added, such as the construction of new hallways inside the terminal to accommodate a larger number of passengers, so that the airport can handle the operations of larger aircraft, such as the Boeing 757.

As the airport terminal has only one level, it would have been very difficult to introduce jetways; Therefore, new covered bridges have been constructed, which connect to also-covered airstairs and then to the aircraft. These new bridges, which can move as jetways, make the embarking and disembarking procesess easier and faster, while protecting the passengers from the sound and weather. Only gates 1-5 are equipped with this kind of bridges. The terminal exterior and interior have also been renovated, with a completely new architectural style.

Location

The airport is located at the outskirts of the city of Veracruz, in a place known as "Las Bajadas".

Name

The airport is named after General Heriberto Jara Corona, once Governor of Veracruz, from 1924 to 1927.
