Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering (TKMCE), founded in 1958, is the first government aided engineering institution in the private sector in the state of
Kerala ,India . The college is located atKilikolloor , six kilometers away from town ofKollam in southernKerala . The foundation stone was laid by Dr.Rajendra Prasad , the erstwhilePresident of India on3 February 1956 . The foundation stone of TKM College of Engineering was laid in 1956, by Dr. N.
Rajendra Prasad , the firstPresident of India . The college was formally inaugurated by Prof.Humayun Kabir , the Cabinet Minister for Scientific and Cultural Affairs on3 July 1958 .The College started with student strength of 120 and a faculty of six, offering courses in
Civil Engineering ,Mechanical Engineering andElectrical Engineering . At present the College has a strength of more than 2000 students with about 200 faculty, supported by 136 non-teaching staff. The College has highly equipped laboratories and computer facilities.The Silver Jubilee of the College was celebrated in 1983. A Central Library with a vast collection of technical books and periodicals was launched as part of the celebrations.

Founder
Thangal Kunju Musaliar was born into a middle class family at
Kollam on12 January 1897 . His ancestry can be traced toMalik Bin Deenar , the legendaryIslamic missionary who came to India in the 8th Century. The name Thangal Kunju Musaliar conjures up the memories of an era, whenKerala dominated thecashew export trade. He was a pioneer in this field who build up a vast business empire through impeccable planning and systematic implementation. By 1940, he had the unique distinction of being one of the world's largest employers, employing over 100,000 people. In 1956, while at the peak of his business career, Mr. Musaliar formed the TKM Educational Trust to cater to the educational needs of the people of Kerala. The Trust established institutions such as TKM College of Engineering, TKM College of Arts and Science and TKM Institute of Management.Mr. Musaliar is the author of the book "Man and the World, Practical Philosophy and Law of Nature" (1949).
Admission
Admission to the College is based on the highly competitive Common Entrance Examination administered by the Government of Kerala, India. Only the top 2-10% of the exam takers are admitted to the College.
