Michael Donnelly was a fictional character on the American soap opera "Santa Barbara". He was portrayed by American actor Frank Runyeon from May 26 1988 to October 14 1991.

Character history

When Mason Capwell was presumed dead, he searched for links to the murder of Mark McCormick at a convent where Michael Donnelly was the main priest. Julia Wainwright, Mason's wife, also showed up at the convent searching for clues, and when it was revealed who killed Mark, Michael realized he fell in love with Julia. Michael's profession as a priest came to torment him when Zach Kelton came to confess his crimes and revealed that he had raped various women. With a huge secret on his conscience, Michael went back and forth trying to decide if he should tell the truth to the police. Zach, realizing that Michael will betray him, kidnapped Julia, but Michael came in time to save her. Realizing that he wants to be free, Michael decided to give up priesthood.

When married couple Ethan and Laura Asher came to town, Michael revealed that he had relationship with Laura in the past, and that he had accidentally murdered her child when he was working as a policeman. Laura forgave Michael, while Ethan suspected they might have an affair together. Another person from Michael's past, Leo Mitchell, arrived in town threatening Michael, and Michael was accused of committing the crime, but it was later revealed that Laura killed Leo in self defense.

Michael then started a short relationship with Greta McAdams, before moving on to Nikki Alvarez. Cruz Castillo saved Michael and Nikki from being tormented by Kirk Cranston, and the couple started dating and even ended up engaged, but Nikki was murdered by Harland Richards before the wedding. Michael was then hired by Minx Lockridge to find the daughter she gave up years ago. After learning that it's actually Cassandra Benedict, Michael and Cassie started dating but didn't last. After another failed relationship, Michael started dating Flame Beaufort, but her suicidal nature ruined that relationship too. After that, Michael decided to travel far away from bad memories.
