49st Event Corp

49st Event Corp is a local event portal which allows users to search for, subscribe to, and share event and entertainment information in any city in North America (49st.com focus was Canada but recently included U.S. cities). Users can also add events, venues, and performers to the system.

Eventful, Zvents, Going.com, and Yahoo's Upcoming.org are competing services.

Functionality

49st users can browse and search for events and entertainment listings in any city across North America. Users also have a customized event calendar which organizes events they have expressed interest in, and are able to subscribe to venues to get automatic notification of events happening at their favorite places. History

49st was started in 1998 as an event management and promotions company by Toronto promoter Rob Imrie. 49st.com was originally a listing site for local entertainment and events he was involved with.

In 2006 Imrie changed the mandate of 49st to become a general purpose event listing site aggregating event information from across the internet. The site was re-launched in 2006 with Web 2.0 features, improved functionality and a more robust back-end capable of handling large amounts of event data. In May 2008 49st expanded its platform to include U.S.
