Rod Davis, born
27 August ,1955 in theUnited States [In his biography at the NZOC website his place of birth is listed asKey West ,Florida in the infobox butSan Diego ,California in the text.] is a former competitive sailor who won Olympic medals for two different countries. At the1984 Summer Olympics inLos Angeles , representing theUnited States , he won the Gold medal in theSoling class along with Robert Haines and Edward Trevelyan. After moving toNew Zealand he was chosen to represent that country at the next 3Olympic Games . Along with Don Cowie he won a Silver medal at the1992 Summer Olympics inBarcelona ,Spain in the Star class.Davis and Cowie finished fifth at the
1996 Summer Olympics inAtlanta and were also fifth in theSoling class atSydney along with 3rd crewman Alan Smith.In ocean racing, Davis began his involvement with the
America's Cup in 1988 when he was appointed coach of the New Zealand team. It was at this time that he moved to New Zealand. He has subsequently been involved in several America's Cup campaigns for various syndicates. In 2005 he was appointed Yachting New Zealand's Olympic Director.References
