- Venus Airlines
Venus Airlines Airline codes|V4|VER|Venus was a charter airline from
Greece that operated from 1992 until 1996. (Do not confuse with Venus Airlines based in the USA [http://venusairlines.com/] )Company History
Venus Airlines was set up in 1992 and began operations in April 1993 using McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft for charter flights from
Scandinavia andGermany to Greece. During the 1994 tourist season, the McDonnell Douglas MD-87 was received and also the Boeing 757-200.Venus Airlines suffered because of organizational problems, with the flights being late on many occasions and the lack of punctuality hurt the airline's reputation among tour operators. By the 1995/96 season operations had been reduced and the B757s were no longer in service, They had been replaced with older Boeing 727-200 aircraft alongside the MD-80s.
But that was to be the last season, since tour operators began to cancel contracts and by the end of 1996 it was all over for Venus Airlines. [Airlines Remembered by BI Hengi, Publisher Midland Publishing]
