Sergei Kuzmich Bunyachenko (Russian: Сергей Кузьмич Буняченко), born
October 5 1902 nearKursk , diedAugust 2 1946 inMoscow , was a SovietRed Army defector to the German side duringWorld War II and aMajor General in the anti-communistRussian Liberation Army (ROA) movement.Red Army soldier since 1918 (at the age of 15), Bunyachenko fought during the
Russian Civil War inUkraine , theBasmachi Revolt inCentral Asia , and theSoviet-Japanese Border Wars in theFar East . In 1942, duringWorld War II , he was captured inNorth Caucasus byRomania ns. He had the rank of SovietColonel ("Polkovnik ") and also a pending sentence of 10 years inlabor camp after the war.In 1943 Bunyachenko agreed to collaborate with the Germans against the Soviet regime of
Joseph Stalin , but in 1945 he again changed sides and participated in thePrague uprising on the side ofCzech resistance . After the Americans turned him to the Soviets, he was hanged fortreason along with the other ROA leaders.External links
