Prince of Tarnovo and descendant of the medieval BulgarianShishman dynasty, he is the leader of theSecond Tarnovo Uprising of the Bulgarians against theOttoman Empire in1686 .In 1686 Rostislav Stratimirovic visited
Moscow where he asked the Russianpatriarch Yoakim for help about the rebellion he was preparing. The agreement was being guaranteed by the engagement between the Prince and the niece of the patriarch – Maria Dubrovska. During this time in the old Bulgarian capital -Tarnovo , the rebellion burst prematurely. Rostislav returned in Bulgaria, but the forces of the Ottoman Empire were much greater and the rebellion was suppressed. Heavily wounded Rostislav got to theRila Monastery , where the monks saved his life. After many adventures he went back to Moscow, where he finally married Maria Dubrovska and gave the foundations of the Russian noble family Saveliev–Rostislavic. One of his descendants is the Russian writerNikolay Saveliev–Rostislavic .
