Jayne Appel (born May 14, 1988 in
Berkeley, California ) is the starting center on the Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team. Jayne has two older brother, Mike and Tommy, and one younger brother, Nate. Jayne's dad Joseph played basketball at St. Mary's.High School Career
Jayne Appel was a four time letter winner in
basketball at Corondelet High School inNorthern California . She was also a three year letter winner inwater polo .As a senior Jayne Appel was a McDonald's All-American. She was named MVP in the game. Also, as a senior she was named Gatorade State Player of the Year in basketball.
She was offered scholarships by top women's basketball programs such as
Connecticut ,Tennessee ,Duke ,USC ,UCLA , andStanford .Jayne was rated as the 3rd best player in the high school class of 2006 by hsgirlshoop.scout.com
She played for the U18 women's national team at the FIBA Americas.
Jayne chose Stanford over Connecticut and Cal.
College career
As a
freshman she averaged 13.2 ppg and 7.5 rpg off the bench. She was only a freshman playing for one of the best teams in the country in Stanford.As a Sophomore she averaged 15.0 ppg and 8.8 rpg. She scored 16 points and pulled down 5 boards in the 2008 National Championship game against Tennessee. Stanford lost 64-48.
Jayne was named the 2007 Pac-10 conference freshman of the year. Also, as a sophomore she was named first team all-pac-10.
