Dan Terrell is the current mayor of the city of Mitchell, Indiana. He was elected to the position in November 2007, and his current term will expire on December 31, 2011. Terrell defeated Democratic mayor Morris "Butch" Chastain in the general election of 2007. Terrell defeated Barry Duncan, Billy Carlisle in the spring primary. Chastain got past two young candidates in the democratic primary, Jason Delaney and James Brown.

The general election was a re-match of the 2003 race when Chastain as re-elected to a second term in office.

An hour after the polls closed, it was clear that Mitchell had elected its first Republican mayor since 1963 as Terrell garnered 805 votes to Chastain's 576 votes. Terrell, who was defeated by Chastain in the 2003 election, had succeeded in unseating Chastain, who spent two terms in office.
