Russell Javors

Russell Javors is one of the members of Billy Joel's band. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 13 1952. At age 15, he was performing songs with Liberty DeVitto, as they were childhood friends. He met Doug Stegmeyer in high school and from then, the boys, along with Howard Emerson, formed "Topper", a band.Together they performed the songs that Russell wrote. The band "Topper" soon became noticed by Billy Joel, a recognizable fan. Soon, Joel found he needed a bassist on his Streetlife Serenade tour. He invited Doug. Later on, Doug influenced Russell and Liberty to join. Eventually, the band "Topper" became "The Billy Joel Band". Javors has been playing with Billy Joel for 13 years.In the 70s, Javors was asked to record the songs he had written. He agreed, and with Howard, Doug, and Liberty, recorded his songs.
