Evan Crawford (born September 2, 1986 in Milton, Florida) is a left handed pitcher. He was selected in the 8th round (249th overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2008 MLB Draft. He currently is a starting pitcher for the Auburn Doubledays.

Crawford, a native of Prattville, AL, played for Auburn University from 2005-2008.

2008 (Junior Season)

Crawford went 3-0 with a team-best 2.42 ERA in 29 appearances out of the bullpen. He struck out 42, which was tops among all AU relievers, and a finished the season with a .244 opponent batting average. In his three-year college career, he totaled 13-14 with a 4.44 ERA.

ummer 2007

Crawford played for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he was named an All-Star. In 16 appearances, Crawford compiled a 0.67 ERA in 27.0 innings, which fell short of the minimum 34 innings needed to appear in the league-leaders stats. His ERA would have tied for the league lead. Crawford also carved up 41 strikeouts in earning five saves. He faced 111 batters and surrendered just 17 hits and 14 walks (two intentional).

2007 (Sophomore Season)

Crawford went 5-6 with a 5.91 ERA in 15 appearances (12 starts). He pitched 67.0 innings, which was third on the team, and earned 43 strikeouts, which was fourth on the team. He was a starter for the first three conference series before going to the bullpen for a short stint. He returned to the starting rotation against Arkansas. He was then tabbed the Friday night starter for the final four series. Crawford fell one out shy of a quality start against Mississippi State (May 4), going 5.2 innings and allowing just two unearned runs (AU lost, 4-1). Evan had the finest relief outing of his career against Alabama (Apr. 22), going 5.0 innings without allowing a run. He had a 3.00 ERA in 3 relief appearances. He allowed just one XBH out of the bullpen while striking out eight (9.0 IP). He was 4-3 with a 5.84 ERA in 8 starts prior to moving to the bullpen. He earned the win in his first outing of the year, going 5.0 innings and surrendering just 1 unearned run on 5 hits and 2 walks, striking out 5 in 4-1 win over UNC Greensboro. He had a solid start at Mississippi State, lasting 5.2 innings and surrendering just 2 unearned runs in 4-1 Friday-night loss.

2006 (Freshman Season)

Crawford went 5-8 with a 4.35 ERA in 15 starts. He led the Tigers in wins (five), IP (78.2), strikeouts (55) and had the lowest opponent batting average of any of the starters at .280. He was the only pitcher to start a game in all 15 series on the season. He led the AU pitching staff with five quality starts. He figured in the decision in each of his starts this season except for two (Hofstra and Mississippi State). The team went 6-9 in his 15 starts. Crawford allowed just 25 ER in 55.2 IP of SEC play, going 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA. He averaged 5+ IP per start, the most among Auburn's three weekend starters. Lefties hit just .188 against him. He tossed 7.0 IP at Florida and allowed only four hits while striking out six. He did not allow a run in his first five IP vs. Kentucky before one of his runners scored in the 6th inning off of the bullpen. He pitched a career-long seven innings, earning the win, in his 3/19 start vs. South Carolina and struckout a career-high eight hitters in the 3/12 start vs. Birmingham Southern, allowing three runs in 6.0 IP and taking the loss. He struckout four in 4.0 IP of a ND on 2/19 vs. Hofstra.

High School

Crawford was a four-year letterman for coach Roger Lambert at Prattville High School. PHS won over 100 games in his three years as a varsity starter including a state-record 47 games in 2004. As a senior, Evan compiled a 7-3 record with a 1.17 ERA and 113 K's in 71 innings. He compiled a 9-2 record with a .097 ERA and 99K's while leading his team to the 2004 Class 6A State Championship finals. He batted .415 as a prep senior, .400 as a junior and .350 as a sophomore. He tossed 2 no-hitters during his career at PHS (one as a sophomore and one as a senior) and had a 6-1 career playoff pitching record with 1 save. All 7 starts were complete games. He was a Perfect Game National Showcase participant as well as a 2004 ECPB Showcase participant in 2004. He pitched for the Ohio Warhawks in the 2004 Perfect Game/Baseball America World Wood Bat Association National Championships. He made the 2005 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season High School Baseball All-American Second Team. He was a PHS Triple Crown winner (.415, 10 2B, 3 3B, 8 HR and 35 RBI) and he was the Team Captain. He made Team One's list of Top 60 High School Left-Handed Pitchers (ranked #12) in 2005. Perfect Game USA ranked him #88 of top 1000 HS players in the nation and the #8 LHP. He was Baseball America's Top LHP prospect in the state of Alabama in 2005. He ranked #128 of top 850 HS players in the nation He was a 2004 AlaBCA Super 100 participant. He was awarded an Honorable Mention Class 6A All-State Pitcher (2004) by the Birmingham News, 2004 North-South AHSAA All-Star Game MVP, Montgomery Advertiser All-Metro Baseball Team selection in 2003, `04, and `05, two-time Alabama Sports Writers Association First-Team All-State Pitcher, 2005 First-Team Birmingham News All-State Class 6A Pitcher, and the 2005 Alabama Sports Writers Association Super 12 selection as a pitcher.
