Josef Bugman

Josef Bugman is a fictional character in the Warhammer Fantasy universe. Bugman is the most notable Dwarf (Warhammer) Master Brewer ever to walk the face of the old world.

Josef's family originated from the Dragonback mountains, but was driven away when the mines of Ekrund were captured by raiding orc hordes. Most of the Dragonback dwarfs settled into the Grey Mountains and founded new strongholds. His father Zhamnil set up the family craft in the eastern forests of The Empire (Warhammer) He built a brew house next to the beautiful River Sol, at the foot of the Grey Mountains. In order to sell his ale more efficiently in The Empire, Zhamnil changed his first name to Samuel, and renamed his son Josef. Subsequent to his father’s death, Josef expanded the family business and became well known for brewing excellent ale. It wasn’t hard for Bugman to ship his barrels of beer down the river and then all throughout The Empire where it grew to be very well liked. Before long, Bugman’s family brew house turned into a small Dwarf settlement and many families descended from the Grey Mountains to join him. Within a few years, Bugman and his family prospered and became rather wealthy, due to the popularity of Bugman’s XXXXXX and his infamous Troll Brew. Bugman became quite well known throughout The Empire and the Dwarf realms. His settlement was not situated near any roads and was usually ignored by passing armies.

One day, Josef Bugman went up river with a load of Bugman’s Special Brew for The Emperor himself. As he returned home, he saw black clouds of smoke rising from his settlement among the pines and thought it was about time to sweep the great chimney. When his beer-barge rounded the twist in the River Sol, Bugman saw the smoldering remnants of his brewery. A Goblin tribe had found and razed the brew house. Every last drop of Bugman’s ale had been consumed by the Goblins in a drunken orgy of carnage. The buildings had been destroyed; the vats had been smashed and everywhere, there lay slaughtered dwarfs.

Bugman and his companions swore vengeance upon the accursed goblins for this horrible deed. Bugman and his rangers hunted the Goblin war band, (which grew in strength every day) all across the Worlds Edge Mountains and eventually into the wilds beyond. The fifty or so rangers could do little against the Goblin army except build cunning traps and pull swift ambushes. Sometimes the group would emerge suddenly from the dense forests to join up with a passing Dwarf army before a battle with the Goblins. They kept mainly to themselves, huddled around their campfires drinking tankards of their prized ale.
