The station which operates on UHF channel 53 signed on the air on
May 25 ,1987 as anindependent station until1995 , when it joinedUPN . When the station first went on the air, it was co-owned with WFLI radio, a radio station licensed toLookout Mountain, TN . It was later sold by Ying Hua Benns to Lambert Broadcasting in 1997, and further switched networks to The WB in2001 . In 2004, WFLI again changed hands and was sold to Meredith Broadcasting (www.meredith.com), owner of television stations and publications nationally.OnMarch 7 ,2006 , The CW announced that WFLI would be the network's Chattanooga affiliate when the network launched.
