John Finglow

John Finglow

John Finglow (Fingley) (b. at Barnby, near Howden, Yorkshire; executed at York, 8 August1586) was an English Roman Catholic priest. He is a Catholic martyr, beatified in 1987.

Life

He was ordained priest at the English College, Reims, 25 March, 1581. The following month he was sent on the English mission.

After he had been for some time in the north of England, he was seized and confined in Ousebridge Kidcote, York. He was finally tried for being a Catholic priest and reconciling English subjects to the Catholic Church, and was condemned to be hanged, drawn, and quartered.
