He played Jr. A hockey beginning in 1999 for the Detroit Compuware Ambassadors and then the following year for the
Soo Indians before moving up to the USHL for the 2001-2002 season. Genovy helped lead theDes Moines Buccaneers to 3rd spot in the USHL East and a playoff spot but the team didn't go far into the post season. After his collegiate years, Genovy signed with the
Laredo Bucks of theCentral Hockey League . Over one and a half seasons with the Bucks (53 games) he compiled 10 goals, 17 assists and 36 penalty minutes.
