Alexander "Sasha" Tsulukidze ( _ka. ალექსანდრე “საშა” წულუკიძე; _ru. Александр Григорьевич Цулукидзе) (
November 1 ,1876 –June 8 ,1905 ) was a Georgiansocial-democratic revolutionary and journalist.Born in
Khoni , western Georgia (then part of theRussian Empire ), Sasha came from a prominent princely family. McArthur & Company, ISBN 978-1-55278-646-8.] He joined theKutaisi -basedMarxist organization in 1896 and became involved in underground student activities while studying inMoscow between 1897 and 1899. Returning to Georgia in 1899, he organized a series of workers’ strikes inTbilisi ,Batumi , and other towns in Georgia. He was an active proponent ofLenin ’s line within theCaucasus structures of theRussian Social Democratic Labour Party and energetically engaged in pro-Bolshevik journalism, criticizing legal Marxists, nationalists, andMensheviks . Together withJoseph Stalin , he was a leader of a Bolshevik revolutionary minority in the Georgian Marxist milieu at a time when the dominant force were theMensheviks led byNoe Zhordania . During theRussian Revolution of 1905 , he was briefly put in theMetekhi prison. [Stephen F. His funeral attracted thousands who followed the open coffin to his native Khoni singing theMarseillaise . In theSoviet Union , Khoni was renamed into Tsulukidze from 1936 to 1990.References
