Robert Welch,
BA MA PhD FEA , is Dean of the Faculty of Arts at theUniversity of Ulster which joined the University in 1984 as Professor of English, having previously taught at theUniversity of Leeds , and theUniversity of Ife inNigeria .He was born in Cork,
County Cork , part of theProvince of Munster in theRepublic of Ireland , and was educated atUniversity College Cork and later theUniversity of Leeds ; he is married to his wife Angela and has four children. Anovelist andpoet as well as acritic andeditor , he published "The Oxford Companion to Irish Literature " in 1996.Other publications include "Muskerry", "Secret Societies", "The Blue Formica Table" which are poetry collections. His fiction writings include "The Kilcolman Notebook", "Groundwork", "Tearmann" (in Irish) and "The Kings Are Out". Criticism: "Irish Poetry from Moore to Yeats", "A History of Verse Translation from the Irish", "Changing States: Transformations in Modern Irish Writing", and "The
Abbey Theatre 1899-1999: Form and Pressure".His work is published by
