Oceania ) acrossacademic disciplines such asanthropology ,archeology ,art ,economics ,geography ,history ,linguistics ,literature ,music ,politics , orsociology .In the fields of anthropology and linguistics, Oceania is often subdivided into
Melanesia ,Micronesia , andPolynesia , while also includingAustralasia . In archeology and prehistory,Oceania extends into the southernPacific Rim ofAsia , especially the islands now comprisingIndonesia ,Malaysia , thePhilippines , andTaiwan . Study of the history, economics, and politics from thecolonial period on is inextricably bound to that of the major colonial powers: Britain,France ,Germany ,Japan , theNetherlands ,Spain ,Russia , theUnited States , and laterAustralia ,New Zealand , andIndonesia .For many
