"SOUTHASIA Magazine" (ISSN|1939-4721) is one of the oldest political English Language magazines published from Pakistan. Certified and a member of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) [ [http://www.apns.com.pk/aagencies.htm All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS)] ] , SOUTHASIA Magazine has a monthly circulation of 50,000 aside from its online traffic. It is published from Karachi, Islamabad, Dubai, and its online edition is maintained from New York.

"SOUTHASIA" is currently edited and published by [http://www.cmc.com.pk/profile.asp?spid=1 Syed Jawaid Iqbal] , and is owned by SOUTHASIA Publications. "SOUTHASIA" was formerly called "THIRDWORLD INTERNATIONAL" before it changed its name in 1997 to make the focus of the periodical targeted towards a more niche readership. Since "THIRDWORLD" had primarily published stories on the impact of the Cold War on South Asia, "SOUTHASIA Magazine" is a political, economic, and socio-cultural magazine that publishes news and analysis about South Asia and its international diaspora.

History

"SOUTHASIA Magazine", formerly called "THIRDWORLD INTERNATIONAL", was established by veteran journalist and media personality, Syed Jawaid Iqbal in 1977, during the height of the Cold War. Where the conflict was primarily between the United States and the former Soviet Union, the battles were most often fought in the Third World nation-states such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Angola, Afghanistan, Panama, and Cuba to name a few. In the past "SOUTHASIA Magazine" has covered ground-breaking news such as the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Iranian Revolution of 1979, the rise of the mujahideen, the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and more recently events of the War on Terror. "SOUTHASIA Magazine" focuses on the evolution and development of the entire world during, and after the Cold War.

Content

The magazine carries news reports from South Asia. Critical analysis and op-ed provide perspectives from leading historians and journalists from the field. Content is divided by cover stories, regional issues, features, special features, and a section on books and art. Stories not only focuses on what is happening in South Asia today, but also publishes stories and events in the United States and how they impact the South Asian community at large.
