1983 VFL Grand Final

1983 VFL Grand Final

The 1983 VFL Grand Final took place on September 24, 1983 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground between VFL clubs Hawthorn and Essendon.

It was Essendon's first Grand Final since 1968 and they were comprehensively beaten by 83 points. The margin of victory for Hawthorn was at the time the biggest in Grand Final history and beat the record which had been set three years earlier. It foreshadowed what was to be an all-time record run of seven consecutive Grand Final appearances for the Hawks.
