Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP (abbreviated RKMC) is a large U.S. law firm based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As of 2008, the firm had 271 lawyers in six offices nationwide: Minneapolis; Atlanta, Georgia; Boston, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California; and Naples, Florida. The firm closed its Washington, D.C. office during the summer of 2007.

Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi was ranked as the 174th largest law firm in the USA by the National Law Journal (NLJ). The firm was the third-largest Minneapolis-based firm on the NLJ's survey.

Practice areas

Over the years, RKMC has developed a strong litigation practice in personal injury, mass tort, intellectual property, antitrust, white collar crime, and various other areas of business litigation. The firm also has a substantial corporate law practice in securities, mergers and acquisitions, and other types of transactions.

History & clientele

The firm was founded as Robins & Davis in 1938. Among the more high-profile cases the firm has handled are the Hyatt Regency walkway collapse, the fire at the Las Vegas Hilton in 1981 (RKMC represented the victims), and the Dalkon Shield litigation.

RKMC represented the Government of India in the aftermath of the Bhopal Disaster, against Union Carbide. They have also represented E & J Gallo Winery in antitrust matters, and Honeywell, Unocal Corporation, Pitney Bowes, and Intergraph in patent infringement cases. In 1985, RKMC handled the initial public offering of Best Buy.

Closure of Washington, D.C. office

On June 7, 2007, the firm announced the planned closure of its Washington, D.C. office. The closure occurred after four of the office's thirteen partners left RKMC to work at Arent Fox.
