ThinkingRock is a free cross-platform software program designed as a supplement to the book
Getting Things Done by David Allen. It has been written in Java and therefore can be used on Windows, Macintosh andLinux operating systems. It provides an easy interface to input thoughts (called Stuff in GTD) and process them into actions, projects, reference items or someday/maybe items. As in Getting Things Done, you can either assign them to be done by yourself ASAP, schedule it for later or delegate it to someone else. It also helps you structure your projects by only showing the next action required to further the project, so you won't be distracted by other, irrelevant steps.Usage
Like in Getting Things Done, the overview of the program includes the stages Collect, Process and Organise, Review and Do. The last three have been grouped together. It also adds the stage Setup. In the stage Setup, you can
*Create the Data File in which to store all the actions.
*Define the Contexts for your actions
*Define the Criteria, this can be Energy, Priority, Time or a combination of those three. You can also add your own.
*Define the Topics, what exactly does the action refer to.Then, you'll get to the Collect stage, where you collect all your thoughts in to the program for processing.
After that you can process all your thoughts, and decide what you want to do with them. You can place them on a Someday/Maybe list, throw it away, keep it as reference, put it on your Do ASAP list, delegate it, schedule it, or make it done. You can also make a project out of it.
Now you'll get to the Organise, Review, Do stage. There you can review all your lists, manage projects and add actions. You can also mark them as done.
