Work

John Brainard’s collage-paintings incorporate painting, photography, collage and assemblage. "...to concoct wry, witty, tender, sometimes touching, visual metaphors that reveal a spiritual kinship with Kurt Schwitters and Joseph Cornell." (Artspeak, Jan. 1997). Employing found objects of all description, photographs of decaying surfaces, and gestural painting, the works are abstractly narrative and personal.
