Luis Fierro

Luis Alberto Fierro (born in Quito, Ecuador on September 10, 1964) is an economic and social development practitioner from Ecuador.

Economist

Luis Fierro is currently the Resource Mobilization Coordinator for the Office in Europe of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Previously, from 1997 to February 2008, he held a number of posts at the headquarters of the IDB, including Senior Program Coordinator at the Sustainable Development Department.

He has contributed to sector strategies and policies of the IDB, including the strategies for the priority areas of the IDB: Sustainable Economic Growth, Poverty Reduction and Promotion of Social Equity, Social Development, Competitiveness, Environment, Modernization of the State, among other areas.

Academic Studies

Luis Fierro holds graduate degrees focusing on Development Economics, International Economics, Environmental Economics, and Public Finance, from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Oregon (Eugene, Oregon). He also holds the degree of Economist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador).

He obtained graduate level certificates in development program monitoring and evaluation from the International Program for Development Evaluation Training (IPDET, www.ipdet.org); and on Management for Development Results from the Inter-American Institute for Social Development (INDES, www.indes.org). Non-profit activities

Luis Fierro is a founder and senior advisor of the non-profit, charitable organization "Ecuador Mi País", which raises funds for social and educational development in Ecuador. He is also on the Board of other non-profit organizations, including the "Alcanzando Metas" (Reaching Goals) Foundation, which promotes educational access for Hispanic female students in public schools of the District of Columbia.
