Cedarvale, Eagan, Minnesota

Cedarvale is the name of an area located in the west part of Eagan, Minnesota. In the early 2000s, the Eagan City Council decided that the area was becoming obsolete and the Cedar Grove Redevelopment Project was born. It wasn't until 2007, however, that the first steps were taken to redevelop the area.

History

Cedarvale was the first developed area of Eagan, MN before it was established as a city. The Cedarvale Mall, the epicenter of the area, was built in three phases beginning in 1965. In addition to being the state's second enclosed shopping mall (Southdale being the first), it was the only true shopping destination south of the Minnesota River. Soon after that, the area attracted many businesses to and around the mall, including Bally Total Fitness, Mike's Shoe Repair, House of Wing (which has relocated to Apple Valley, MN), and Grand Slam USA (which has relocated to Burnsville, MN).

Demolition of the area began in 2007, the Cedarvale Mall itself being town down in the spring of 2008. Some of the businesses yet to be removed include Larson's Auto Repair, U-Haul, Minsk Market, Eagan Tap (formerly an A&W Restaurant), Sherwin Williams, and Laundry Mat. The only businesses staying are Cedarvale Lanes, and Jenson's Supper Club.
