Stony Point Center is one of three conference centers of the
Presbyterian Church (USA) . The other two conference and retreat centers includeGhost Ranch andMontreat .Stony Point Center is located on convert|32|acre|ha in the Hudson River Vally, in the town of
Stony Point, New York 30 miles north ofManhattan . The facility began about 150 years ago as a ministry of hospitality shaped by four daughters of a Presbyterian minister. The Gilmor sisters offered missionaries on furlough a cup of hot chocolate, and a fire in the open fireplace: "Come to our home, enjoy the gardens, and renew your spirit!" Today the mission of Stony Point Center remains "to broaden hospitality and deepen vocation".In a given year, Stony Point Center will host thousands of individuals from hundreds of religious and not-for-profit groups. Program events can include college age young adult events, disability concerns, Bible studies, arts and worship, design-your-own mission base camps, family summer events, training events for church and community leadership, renewal retreats for teachers and community leaders, and more.
Beginning in August 2008,
Rick Ufford-Chase , former Moderator of the PC(USA), and his wife Kitty, will jointly assume the role of Transitional Co-Directors of Stony Point Center. Their vision for the Center includes "helping historic Stony Point transition in its mission as it prepares to meet the needs of yet another generation both inside and outside the church."
