In the early 1990s, as a part of the rituals of American Samoa royalty, she received tribal tattoos on her right biceps and one both legs. The process was performed the traditional way, leaving the subject in pain for a week or two thereafter. The people of the area gathered around her during her recovery to distract her from the pain.

She joined the Air Force in 1994 to "see the world". She had been stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, but was later transferred to McChord Air Force Base in Pierce County, Washington.

Tulimalefoi Mauga is also the name of an exclusive crew based in Winston-Salem, NC.
