Peter Bauer (born October 29 1957) is perhaps best known as the Help Desk Director for the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP). He is the author of a number of books on Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, digital photography, and computer graphics. He also contributes to a number of graphics-related magazines and Internet sites. He received the Photoshop Pioneer award in September 2005 and has been nominated for the Photoshop Hall of Fame. A member of both the Professional Photographers opf America and the Professional Photographers of Indiana, Pete has exhibited photography and illustrations in a number of venues, both in the US and in Europe.
A native of Detroit and a graduate of the University of Detroit High School and Excelsior College (Regents College of the University of the State of New York), Pete served 11 years (1986-1997) in the US Army as a military intelligence interrogator, including combat duty during the Gulf War (1991). He met and married his wife, Mary Ellen O'Connell (current holder of the Robert & Marion Short endowed Chair in Law at the Notre Dame School of Law) while serving with the Army in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Subsequent to his military service, he authored the "Statement on Interrogation Practices" for members of the US Senate and House Committees on the Armed Forces (July 2006), signed by over 20 former military interrogators.
