The Baltimore Rowdy Collective

The Baltimore Rowdy Collective (more commonly referred to as the "Baltimore Rowdy Crew") is a loosely-organized group of friends from Baltimore, Maryland. Essentially formed by Chris Freeland, Nat Fowler, Dan Janssen, and others in 1998, the group participates in many forms of organized, "polite" mayhem, known to members as "rowdyism" [ [http://www.citypaper.com/printStory.asp?id=3346] "Baltimore City Paper", "Songs About Yucking", 26 March, 2003.] . Perhaps the most famous Rowdy Crew incident involved the "kidnapping" of Weasel Walter, from the band "To Live and Shave in L.A.," during one of the band's live performances in Baltimore. After similar groups, such as Improv Everywhere and "Flash Mobs" began to gain notoriety, the Rowdy Collective began to slow down, for fear of being seen as copycats (thought the Rowdy Crew's activities began long before the other groups appeared). Rowdy Crew Members Chris Freeland, Nat Fowler, and Marc Miller are best known for their instrumental rock band, OXES. Several other members, including Freeland, make short movies as part of the Sike Trike Collective.
