Czecho-Slovakia

Czecho-Slovakia

The term Czecho-Slovakia (in Czech and Slovak "Česko-Slovensko") was the official short-form name of Czechoslovakia during several periods of its history:

# 1918 to 1920 (according to some sources until 1923)
# late 1938 to March 14, 1939
# April 1990 to the dissolution on December 31, 1992

The name was originally conceived to be the equivalent of the name "Austria-Hungary", however the term was mostly in general disuse and the simpler term "Czechoslovakia" (official for most of the nation's history) was preferred. Today, Czechoslovakia is known as "Czechoslovakia" ( _cs. Československo) according to official Czech spelling rules, while it is still known as "Czecho-Slovakia" ( _sk. Česko-Slovensko) according to official Slovak spelling rules.
