The French frigate "Carrère" was one of two 18pdr-armed frigates which were building on the stocks in Venice in November 1796, when Bonaparte took
Venice during the . The two frigates were completed in August 1797 under the names "La Carrère" and "La Muiron" by the orders of Pierre-Alexandre Forfait. They both served during the French invasion of Egypt in 1798, and were the ships used by Napoleon to return to France. Elbe on 3 August 1801 [p.648, Urban] and added to theRoyal Navy as HMS "Carrere", but rated at 36 guns, [p.138, James] with Frederick Lewis Maitland as her first captain, being sold on 1 September 1814.References
