Robert Maynard Hardy

Robert Maynard Hardy CBE [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/uk/2001/birthday_honours_2001/1390779.stm BBC reports award] ] was an Anglican Bishop during the latter part of the 20th century and the early part of the 21st. Born on 5 October 1936 and educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield [ Who’s Who 2008 (London, A & C Black, 2008) ISBN 9780713672576] and Clare College, Cambridge, he was ordained in 1963. His first post was at "All Saints and Martyrs, Langley, Manchester " [ [http://www.manchester.anglican.org/churches_detail.asp?ID=281 Church details] ] , after which he became Chaplain (and a Fellow) of Selwyn College, Cambridge [Crockford's clerical directory 2008 London, Church House 2007 ISBN ISBN 9780715110300 ] . Following this he was appointed Vicar of Borehamwood then " of the St Albans Diocese Ministerial Training Scheme" . In 1980 he ascended to the Episcopate [The Times, Thursday, Sep 04, 1980; pg. 2; Issue 60715; col D "New Bishop of Maidstone"] as Bishop of Maidstone and was translated to Lincoln seven years later [ Debrett's "People of Today": Ed Ellis,P (1992, London, Debtrett's) ISBN 1870520092)] . In retirement he continues to serve as an Honorary Assistant Bishop within the Diocese of Carlisle.
