- Kakae
Kakaokinae was the 11th
Mo'i of Maui . He was the titular chieftain or king of the island ofMaui . His name is sometimes given as Kakaeloiki. He was son of
Kaulahea I ofMaui and High Chiefess Kapo-Hana-Au-puni ofHilo . His brother wasKakaalaneo . He and his brother Kakaalaneo, appears to have jointly ruledMaui andLanai . The brothers courts were atLahaina which at that time still preserved its ancient name of Lele. Of Kakae personally nothing is remembered. He was surnamed Kaleo-iki, and was considered as deficient in mental qualities. Some traditions state that Luaia was his grandson, but most of the genealogies states Luaia was the grandson of Kakaalaneo. His wife's name was Kapohauola, and she was the wife of Ehu, the son ofKuaiwa , on Hawaii Pili line, and thus establishes the comteporaneity of theses island monarchs. The High Chiefess Kapohauola was said to have been Kakae's maternal aunt. Kakae's only know son wasKahekili I . His brother appeared to succeeded him to the dignity and title of Moi. After Kakaalaneo's death, Kakae's son succeeded him as Moi of Maui rather than Kakaalaneo's own children.Reference
