- Um Ruman
Zaynab bint ‘Āmir "Umm Ruman" ( _ar. أم رومان بنت عامر) was a Companion of
Muhammad .Zaynab was raised in "Sarat" in the
Arabian Peninsula . She married a young man from her tribe named ‘Abdullah ibnHarith ibn Sakhbarah Azdi; their son wasTufail ibn Abdullah . They then moved toMecca , where ‘Abdullah became the partner and companion ofAbu Bakr (who was already married to Qutaylah bint ‘Abdu l-‘Uzzá) and had a daughter, Asma, and a son, ‘Abdullah.Soon after, Zaynab was widowed and she and her son were left with no support. Seeing her precarious condition, Abu Bakr married her. They later had a daughter, ‘A'ishah bint Abu Bakr, who married Muhammad.
It is written in the "Tabaqat" of
Ibn Sa'd that Umm Ruman accepted Islam in the very early days in Mecca. She swore allegiance at the hand ofMuhammad himself and then migrated with the group of immigrants.One
hadith narator named Masruq took narrations from Umm Ruman and wrote that she died in 6 Hijri.
