Betty Jaynes was a B-actress in the late 1930s and early 1940s. She appeared in
Babes in Arms in 1939, then in a series of low-level parts in MGM movies through 1944.Betty was born on February 12, 1921 in
Greeneville, Tennessee .Life Magazine featured Betty in an article in the December 21, 1936 issue, called "Their Music Makes News". She had made a "sensational debut" with theChicago City Opera Company in La Boheme, at the age of 15. In that article, she said she would "quit school and consider movies".She played Molly Moran in Babes in Arms in 1939, and sang on the soundtrack. After that, she played bit parts in seven
MGM movies.She married fellow actor and budding baritone
Douglas McPhail during this time, but they divorced soon after. He committed suicide on December 6, 1944, after his career fizzled.References
