The
music video , directed byDom and Nic , contains scenes filmed at the now defunctMG Rover Longbridge plant . It starts out with a man watching women in an exercise video dance on a window TV in a store, possibly spoofing the then-recent video forEric Prydz 's singleCall On Me . The video follows a man's transformation from a responsible worker at an automotive plant to a paranoid schizophrenic, collapsed in fits of laughter on a public street. While on the job at the factory, the man notices a group of welding robots pointing at him as he walks by. Confused at first, the man later catches one of the machines at a nearby park, dipping the welding tips into the water. The robot acts suprised, as though caught in the midst of an illicit act. The man quickly turns and walks away, but knows he has witnessed an action the robot did not want anyone to see. Following the encounter in the park, the man suspects the machine may be after him, a suspicion confirmed when the robot breaks through his bathroom window and attempts to grab him while he is shaving. The next scene catches the man awakening in a panic in bed, conveying the notion that the robot attack may have been an illusion or a nightmare. Returning to the bathroom, the man finds the window is unbroken and the bathroom shows no sign of a break-in.
During later points in the video, the man sees the robots chasing him at various times, such as in the locker room, and while travelling on the bus and theLondon Underground . Around him, people seem not to notice the robots, nor make way for them as they chase the man around the city. Towards the end, the man runs to the roof of a parking garage, believing it to be a safe haven from a robot that has chased him for blocks. Seconds later, a robot climbs up the side of the building and corners him at the edge of the roof. Just as the robot is about to attack, it vanishes. Unsure of what has just happened, the man descends to the street. Robots are coming toward him from every direction and manhole covers and streetlights emit comet-like tails colored in iridescent hues. The triangular-textured wall of a building in front of him flickers into the same iridescent shades, before falling apart in a cascade of colored tiles. Laughing maniacally, the man falls to the street as his hallucinations blot out his last rational view of the world around him.Track listings
