Rama’s heritage, including the holy city of Rameshwaram is under jeopardy from the launch of the Sethusamudram Canal Project. The construction of a canal will destroy this bridge. It is also argued that design of the canal is likely to invite a tsunami that could wash out Rameshwaram, similar to the manner in which
Poompuhar was washed away.See also
