Jon Fulkerson was the last National Exploring President elected by youth, and became, after just two weeks in office, the first National Venturing President for the
Boy Scouts of America onAugust 1 1998 . When the Boy Scouts of America created the Venturing program for young men and women ages fourteen to twenty, the tradition of having a national president went as well.Fulkerson was elected by the youth of the Exploring program in 1998 at the
National Exploring Leadership Conference . Since the year 2000 at the end of his term, all national presidents have been selected by a sub-committee of the National Venturing Committee and only serve a one year term.Term of Office
One of the major accomplishments of his term was the creation of the
Violence Prevention Forum as part of the outlined programs available to Venturers. The Violence Prevention Forum acts as athink tank for young people with regard to combating the violent behavior so common among people of their age. Fulkerson presented his thoughts on violent behavior among youth at the 1999World Scout Youth Forum in South Africa.Fulkerson and the other members of the
National Venturing Cabinet spent the two years of their term promoting the Venturing program and explaining its place in the world of scouting. Fulkerson was a delegate to the 1999Report to the Nation .
