Sahaita Incorporated, also known as simply Sahaita ( _pa. ਸਹਾਇਤਾ), is a non profit organization headquartered in the San Francisco, Bay Area in California, United States. [http://www.taxexemptworld.com/organization.asp?tn=1476193] The word "Sahaita" literally means "to help" or "to support" in Hindi and Punjabi. The primary purpose of this charity is to help impoverished children and elderly in the state of Punjab, India, and in the state of California, USA. Sahaita frequently holds free medical clinics in various areas of California, USA. In addition to that, they also go to India every year and provide services free of charge to poverty stricken villagers and the poor.

Founder

Sahaita was founded in February 2005 by Dr. Harkesh Singh Sandhu with the help and support of his wife and close family friends. [ [http://sahaita.com/aboutus.php Sahaita | About Us ] ] According to Sahaita's website, this is what they stand for:

Sahaita's Appeal
The word 'Sahaita' is used in both Hindi and Punjabi language. The literal meaning of "Sahaita" is "to help" or "to support".

Every now and then somewhere in this world, human beings suffer due to man made, or natural disasters. In the third world countries, everyday, poor children and elderly struggle for basic survival, food, health, and education. The number of destitute children and elderly people is on the rise as economic stresses increase day by day.

We the members of Sahaita appeal to the fortunate among us to wholeheartedly help the unfortunate among us.

A small token of love, affection, and wealth can go a long way to help the unfortunate in our society. Sahaita will help to provide resources that are readily available to the needy children and elderly regardless of their status, background, religion or caste.

During their three year history they have held over 25 health awareness medical camps in Punjab, India and have seen over 25,000 patients. Along with doing medical camps in Punjab, Sahaita also maintains regular medical camps in the state of California, USA. Medical camps are typically performed at a Gurdwaras. Hundreds of patients are examined at these camps and health education classes are available at some of the camps. Cities include: Fremont, Hayward, San Jose, Stockton, Sacramento, Yuba City, Livingston

Sahaita also owns a complex called the Bal Bhawan complex which houses and helps over 100 children who are either orphans, disabled, belonging to disabled parents, abandoned or have no financial resources for education or care.

Goals

At present Sahaita is trying to provide its services by keeping these goals in mind.

Mobilizing community members, with a common interest in our society's welfare and to help generate resources. These resources include:

•Providing equal opportunity and resources to needy children and elderly regardless of their status, background, religion, or caste
•Organizing charitable clinics that provide preventive health education and immunizations in California and India
•Providing help to shelters for orphans, disabled children and adults
•Providing education tools for less fortunate children of California and Punjab
•Helping other charitable organizations working for the welfare of children and poverty stricken communities around the world

Operations and Funding

Sahaita's staff is purely volunteer based which is composed of doctors, professionals, college students, high school students and many volunteers from the punjabi community. Their funding comes strictly from independent donations as they raise awareness of the organization by having annual fund raisers in USA, Canada, and India.
